The Area around Oaklands Farm

Apart from swimming in our indoor heated pool, fishing at Haveringland Park, and local nature walks on your doorstep, there is a lot more on offer in the local area.

Sightseeing: Three miles north is the village of Cawston which has an excellent local shop, a café/deli and a pub. The market town of Aylsham is 6 miles to the north east (where the Bure Valley steam train runs regularly to Wroxham), while the market town of Reepham is in the opposite direction (with direct access to the Marriott’s Way). To the south is the historic city of Norwich, home of a wonderful cathedral standing in a close on the edge of the river Wensum. To the north lies the very popular award winning Georgian market town of Holt with a host of galleries, boutiques and cafés.

National Trust: The stunning National Trust property Blickling Estate with the best bluebell wood in the country, and fabulous house and gardens is only a few miles away.  Towards the coast is another impressive national trust property, Felbrigg Hall

Golf: Oaklands Farm is within 30 minutes or less of several top golf courses, including the Wensum Valley and Bawburgh golf clubs to the south and the famous Royal Cromer Golf Club to the north.

Walking/Cycling: With an abundance of quiet and relatively flat country lanes the area is ideal for cycling or walking. The popular walking/cycling trail Marriott’s Way has several access points close by. Bure Valley Railway is another popular cycling route, and you can take the historic steam train, with stops along the way, one way to Wroxham and cycle back. We can provide copies of Ordinance Survey Explorer map of the immediate area to help you along the way, and you have the use of our two mountain bikes as well!

Riding:. Marriott’s Way also allows horse riding along the route.  Blackwater Farm, home of international horse trials in March and July,  is 10 minutes away in Sparham (they also offer use of their cross country course for £15/horse). We can provide copies of Ordinance Survey Explorer map of the immediate area to help you along the way. For more details of riding in the area click here.

Nature: To the east is Wroxham - home to the Norfolk Broads, renowned for bird watching and boating, where one can hire boats/canoes by the day or week. A few miles beyond Holt lies the North Norfolk coast, a Designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with its ‘big skies’, gorgeous beaches, and wide variety of leisure facilities including sailing, bird and seal watching walks and golf courses. Pensthorpe is approximately 30 minutes away - home of BBC Springwatch, with bird sanctuary, 3 stunning gardens, cafe and much more!

Getting Here: A few miles south is Felthorpe Airfield with 2 grass runways - fly over and we will happily come and collect you! We can also arrange collection from Norwich.
